Hill Country Blades (HCB) was formed out of a need for fencers from across central Texas to practice and prepare for competitions. Fencers from Austin and San Antonio would regularly converge on Texas State University to fence. The diverse background of skill and experience from these fencers created a highly energetic and motivating atmosphere for all that attended.
After Coach Basler helped start high school fencing in Comal ISD, HCB officially registered as a club with USA Fencing and began accepting students. Hill Country Blades serves the hill country area north of San Antonio along the 46 corridor. The club is now expanding to Boerne, Bulverde, and New Braunfels.
Texas State Fencing Club was established in 1975. Since its foundation it has served as the launchpad for multiple national and international fencers, including several Fencing and Modern Pentathlon Olympians.
